Snapshots

In Tauvegavega, a mainly Indian community on the Western side of Fiji, local young people identified a shortage of clean drinking water as a key issue for their community (they are the ones who have to walk to get it!). Tomu (a youth worker with Youth For Christ) is working with the community elders to stop the spread of sickness caused by drinking unclean water. As a temporary measure they have involved outside help in getting water filters to families, now they are seeking support to repair and extend the existing pipeline to a new and cleaner well. They need a hand with some materials for the project.

Amani is working to refocus the young people of Nakasi squatter community, away from alcohol and kava fueled boredom, and towards a game that they love. Volleyball is popular with both Fijian and Indian young people, and helps to build positive connections between the two groups. Amani, a youth worker with the Salvation Army plans to organise a local league for unemployed young people, but first he has to involve them in building a court. The young people will put the labour into clearing and levelling a piece of unused ground, they will need a little help with fundraising to buy some equipment.

Once it is ready he plans to use the facility for health education and Bible study groups. We hope to find Amani support for two days per week to develop and then run this project.
