Entry Requirements

  • The minimum age for entry into the training programme is 18 on the day that the course begins. There is no upper age limit. Application for a special exemption from the age restriction should be addressed to the Praxis national office.
  • You are required to work from an agency with a job description based on how they expect you to be involved over the year. This involvement can be either paid or voluntary but it is very important for your learning that you have a supportive and understanding agency
  • You are willing to participate in a course with a Christian kaupapa
  • We require all applicants to give permission to have their police record checked by Praxis. A criminal record does not automatically mean that your application will be turned down.
  • On the application form, you will also be asked to supply us with the contact details of a person from your proposed agency, and one other reference person, with whom we can discuss your suitability for working with youth, and your ability to handle the academic requirements for the course.
  • Since most agencies require youth workers to drive at some stage we encourage you to get your driver’s licence (at least your learners) before you start the course.
  • We want to help you select the right study track, so during your interview we will discuss how you have got on with other study, including school (please bring print outs of your results to your interview), and how confident you are feeling about study.
