Praxis is an NZQA approved provider. Our courses are accredited through NZQA. The courses use a mixture of both unit standards and some papers which have been developed specially for this course.
Loans and allowances are available through Study Link for 35 of our full time students. To see if you are eligible to apply for these visit: http://www.studylink.govt.nz
All students will also be issued with a student ID card after fees have been paid.
If you need help with fees, course or living costs, you should check your eligibility for these and other grants through www.studylink.govt.nz Some agencies (where you do your practical work) provide help with accommodation, travel costs or fees, you should check with them, or with your course co-ordinator for advice.
The employing groups listed at the back of this booklet all recognise and endorse Praxis qualifications. We are regularly getting approached by agencies looking for people to employ and are always happy to recommend suitable graduating students, and help you find work.
The agency that provides your practical experience during the year is not obliged to offer you a job at the end of the year. However we find that nearly all students who successfully complete the course, and establish a good reputation for themselves during the year have no trouble finding roles as a youth or community worker.
The recognition and cross crediting of Praxis qualifications towards degree courses varies between universities, if you are planning to go on to further study we will support your application for recognition of prior learning and recommend those institutions where you are most likely to receive most recognition for your work with Praxis.
The Praxis team are working with the Industry Training Organisation (ITO) to develop a degree programme in Youth Development, which is due to be launched in 2012. We have been assured that the National Diploma will credit directly into the new degree we will keep you up to date with the developments as they happen.
Praxis is a member of ICY (International Christian Youthworks). After your first year of study in NZ, you can apply to do your second year of study as you work in another country. Through our partnership arrangement we can organise accommodation, a church to work in and your academic enrolment in one of the following countries: England, Germany or Canada.
Overseas qualifications are accredited within their own countries, for example study in England is accredited to the University of Wales. Praxis courses are recognised by ICY and cross credit into some other international qualifications.
The Ministry of Education has approved Praxis as provider of courses for international students who want to study in New Zealand. Separate costs and application procedures apply and these are found on the Praxis website www.praxis.org.nz .
