You are required to advise the Student Services Co-ordinator (Lloyd Martin) of any change in your contact details while you are in New Zealand, including change of accommodation type, or residential address. The Student Services Co-ordinator is responsible for helping you to find accommodation, and for monitoring your accommodation arrangements. Lloyd can be contacted at: lloyd@praxis.org.nz or 64 4 802 5606.
We are able to organise accommodation for your stay, you have the following options:
Unless you have your own contacts for accommodation, we recommend that all students begin their time in NZ by staying with a family (homestay).
We can arrange a homestay for your entire time in NZ, or just for a few weeks while you look for a flat.
If you have a particular interest or need, for example: a flat or homestay that is involved in a particular type of ministry, a place that serves vegetarian food. Let us know on the Student Information sheet and we will do our best to arrange it.
Homestay families will generally:
Expect 2 weeks notice if you intend to move out.
Homestay costs will generally be between $90 and $150 per week.
These fees do not cover:
Internet facilities may not be provided at your homestay.
Once we have your Student Information sheet (and know what your needs are), we will find and assess a homestay option for you. An assessment will usually involve a visit to the place and meeting with the family by our Student Services Co-ordinator.
We will pass on any further information to you (including actual cost) after this meeting.
You are welcome to go flatting. While we can pass on information about flats with a vacancy, we do not provide assessments of flats. We strongly advise you to start with a homestay when you arrive, and then sort out a flat once you are here.
Flatting with 2-3 other people is likely to cost you between $100 and $200 per week (each) including food and bills. The closer you are to the central city the more expensive it becomes (but you save on transport).
A flat will often require a bond of 2 weeks rent to be paid in advance.
You will generally need to buy your own personal furniture (eg. bed) and linen for a flat.
