MissionTheology 2 |
Using Bible themes and practical examples (current and historical) to Introduce a transformational mission paradigm. Students will asked to explore and develop their own theology of mission practice. |

Reflective Practice |
Introducing a framework for action reflection in youth and community mission practice. Identifying characteristics of a sustainable spirituality for people involved in youth work and community building. |

|
Youth and Community Development Practice |
Learn how to work with existing communities; the focus is on working with groups of people and their places (rather than as individuals), and how they can work together to make better places to live in. We will focus on the unique contribution of the Christian faith to this process. |

|
Building Christian Community |
Describes the nature and development of communities of faith, with reference to developing and building faith communities around missional practice. |
All of these must be completed by full time students

Faith, Society and Culture |
This module explores the interface of the social sciences and theology as they relate to New Zealand society and the church. A number of social issues including the Treaty of Waitangi will be explored from the point of view of missional practice. |

Response Abilities Pathways (RAP) |
This modules focuses on issues around connecting with people in crisis, it has a focus on working with chikldren and young people, but is relevant for any age group. The workshop is based on the Circle of Courage model of Youth Development and includes a separate text book. |
||
|
Mission Immersion Experience |
An immersion learning experience living in a 2/3 world or other cross-cultural context, having opportunity to dialogue with and learn from practitioners in a 2-3 week intensive. Students will be asked to select from one of a range of local and overseas opportunities. |

Full time students must complete three papers (30 credits) from the following options in 2009 or subsitute them with approved alternatives from other institutions . A selection of the following papers will be offered during the July workshop based on interest, please help us to plan by indicating which ones you would like to attend as early as possible.

Advanced ABL Group Facilitation |
Pre-requisite: ABL 1 (unit standard; 468, or the FABLE 1 course –Project Adventure).Develop experiential education and advanced processing skills as a tool for therapeutic intervention and Christian discipleship with groups and individuals. |

Adventure Therapy |
Apply practice theories and models used within adventure therapyin an outdoors context. The course will also require participants to participate in adventure activities and demonstrate therapeutic techniques. |

The Reluctant Manager |
An overview of issues in community organisation management, including; establishing a vision, goals and business plan, governance and marketing, legal and financial structures. |

Working with People – Leadership and Facilitation |
Examines leadership using contemporary and biblical frameworks in an attempt to address the issues of leading, managing and providing vision for an organisation. Practice in the skills of group dynamics, coaching, pastoral care, and facilitation (including consensus building and conflict management) will be assessed. |

Indigenous Leadership Development |
Describes and develops principles of effective leadership from an indigenous perspective based on traditional models of Maori and Pacific Island leadership |

Reading the Bible into your Community |
Finding the bible dry and irrelevant? Need some ideas for how to engage people with scripture? Marcus will help us using innovative and practical ideas that incl the places we live in to help us find God. |

Mental Health Issues in Mission |
An introduction to the indicators and scope of contemporary mental health issues and wellbeing, and identifying best practice for the support of people who are struggling in these areas. |

Introduction to Counseling |
Discusses the following aspects of counseling from a Christ centred perspective; establish relationship with a client, assist client to identify purpose for counseling, assist client work to work towards achieve their identified purposes for counseling, and effect closure of the relationship. |

Community Gardens as Development Practice |
A ‘hands on’ case study approach to using community gardens as a context for community building. |

Justice Making |
You hear the word justice bandied around, but what does it mean? why is it mentioned so much in the bible? This will help guide you through the biblical stuff and towards more effective community involvement |

Emerging Practice in Youth Work |
A follow up to the Development Practice module aimed at helping youth workers to apply a youth development model to their own practice with young people. This module is based around a personal action research project supervised by Praxis staff.
