Young people build vegetable garden beds to provide long term solutions around food insecurity.

This project was a response to food insecurity. Young people learnt to build vegetable garden beds to provide long term solutions around food insecurity. Young people were passionate to make natural and locally grown food and produce available to the communities that struggle with access to sustainable and affordable kai.

Outputs:

  • 4 garden beds were built and planted with vegetables.

  • No chemicals or pesticides used in the soil for growing.

  • 23 different types of vegetable seedlings planted in garden.

  • 10 vegetables planted in each garden box

  • 2 different schools communities receiving garden beds.

  • 7 young people led the project from the planning to the building of the garden beds.

"I only joined this project because I wanted to get my service hours in, but when I learnt about how to give my assistance and the purpose of the group, this project really changed my thinking around climate change" - Young person - 17 years old.
